Visit one of the largest palaces erected in Europe during the 18th century, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Maybe you do not know that the Royal Palace of Caserta is the largest royal residence in the world and is one of the most visited museums in the world. This little information seems more than enough to stimulate your cultural curiosity and organise a Caserta Royal Palace Tour with your family and friends! Maybe a private driver will make you feel privileged and coddled!
The Royal Palace is considered the last major masterpiece of Italian Baroque and was completed in 1845 although it was already inhabited in 1780. It is a magnificent complex of 1,200 rooms with a total of 1,742 windows. The southern side of the building is 249 meters long, taller than 37 and decorated with 12 columns. The main facade has a central forehead surmounted by a pediment with two other advances at the sides. The facade on the garden is the same as the one above with finely grooved windows.
The palace covers an area of approximately 47,000 square metres with 34 staircases. Inside the rectangular perimeter building, the palace has two building blocks crossing each other, forming four large inner courtyards of over 3,800 square metres each.
The present park only partially corresponds to the original realisation of the project by Luigi Vanvitelli. The work was completed by his own son Carlo who resized his father’s design for lack of funds. The park extends over an area of over 120 hectares and is 3.3 km long. Water is supplied by the Carolino Aqueduct, which was built at the same time as the palace and which supplies the park, the fountains and the palace.
From the central part of the rear façade of the palace, the Italian Garden is connected to the English Garden by the famous Waterway. This is formed by two long parallel boulevards among which there are a series of suggestive and famous fountains:
The Margherita Fountain, The Fountain of Dolphins, The Fountain of Eolo, The Fountain of Ceres, The Small Waterfalls and Fountain of Venus and Adon, The fountain of Diana and Atteone, dominated by the Great Waterfall
Thanks to the “telescope effect” developed by Vanvitelli, looking at the mountain from the Palace and following the longitudinal tanks, you do not perceive that the path is longer than 3 km.
